On Our Faith: Sikh Immersion on War, Hate, and Violence

Join the members of the Sikh faith for a Sikh Immersion Experience on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 for a Pathways to PoWR Pre-Parliament Event.

The event aims to provide guests with an in-depth exposure to another faith to broaden their perspective and enable them to see the commonalities with their own faith. To this end, the event will enable guests to experience an evening in their local Gurdwara.

When: Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at 5:30 PM

Where: Gurdawara Sikh Cultural Society 9530 118 St, South Richmond Hill, NY 11419

The event will start with a guided tour of the premises commencing with the Langar Hall (dining room) for snacks and an explanation of the five centuries old langar tradition. During their tour, the guests will also see relics housed at the Gurdwara and receive an explanation of the historical events depicted in paintings on the Gurdwara walls. This will be followed by an opportunity to sit in the temple as part of the congregation and to experience the spiritual talks and hymns related to the Sikh faith.

5:30 pm: Welcome and Tea at Langar Hall

5:45 - 6:15 pm: Tour of the Complex

6:15 - 6:50 pm: Lecture and Discussion

7:00 pm - Onwards: Evening Congregational Program

Please take some time to read the guide provided for a brief introduction into Visiting a Gurdwara before attending the event. Since the evening program will likely go beyond 9 pm, guests are welcome to stay but may leave after 7 pm.

The evening will include time for one of our most experienced speakers to address the topic of “War, Violence and Hate Speech" from the Sikh perspective.
