UN Interfaith Thinkers Campus Features Pathways to PoWR pre-Parliament Gathering in Singapore

A pre-Parliament event in Singapore was held in conjunction with the UN Interfaith Thinkers Campus on November. 13 - 15th. Over 65 people from Singapore, Pakistan, Viet Nam, Australia, China, Canada and elsewhere, who came together in a dynamic gathering to dialog and identify possible interfaith contributions to the New Urban Agenda (UN Habitat) for a sustainable and just future of cities.

Speakers Tim Costello (Australia) and Bishop Samuel (Brazil) helped look with new eyes at the urgent need and hope for more inclusive and just cities of the future, where it is estimated that by 2050 two thirds of the world will be living. Discussion groups shared perspectives, learned from each other, and made commitments to interfaith implementation of the New Urban agenda in personal settings. Delicious refreshments at breaks provided additional opportunity for sharing and building bonds.

PWR was honored with the participation of notables such as Benny Kan Mun Wai, Hong Kong ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation, Ellen Vaillancourt, City of Vancouver, and Allama Dr. A.G.R. Chishti of Islamabad and his family who came from Pakistan for the event.

Participants watched videos about the most recent Parliament held in 2015 in Salt Lake City and felt encouraged to register for the 2018 Parliament in Toronto.  The Parliament is urged to include the New Urban Agenda document and implementation for just, sustainable cities as a significant part of the 2018 Toronto program.

The UN Urban Thinkers Campus was sponsored by a network of groups, including the World Evangelical Alliance Creation Care Network, The Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC), Singapore Center for Global Missions, Micah Global, and Urban Shalom Project.

There is energy to continue working, and participating in the next event nearby, the World Urban Forum.
