Parliament to Participate in the Upcoming Religion Communication Congress in Washington, D.C.

The Parliament of the World’s Religions is joining international organizations, small non-profits, academic institutions and consulting agencies from around the world by becoming a cooperating organization for the upcoming Religion Communication Congress 2020.

Since 1970, the Religion Communication Congress has been a once-a-decade gathering of professional religion communicators from a wide range of faith traditions. The first Congress arose from a simple idea: to provide a forum to expand the experience and broaden the perspective of professional communicators in faith-based settings beyond their specialized work area. This year's theme focuses on “communicating faith in the public square”.

Parliament Joins Preparatory Workshop for FBOs to engage in the Beijing+25 Review Process

On Tuesday, January 28th Parliament Chair, Audrey Kitagawa, joined the World Council of Churches, ACT Alliance, UN Women, UNFPA, Islamic Relief USA, Church & Society: The United Methodist Church, Seventh-day Adventist’ Church, Soka Gakkai International, and the United Religions Initiative in conjunction with Ecumenical Women, Anglican Communion, Faith in Beijing+25 Coalition and Lutheran World Federation, in a preparatory workshop to explore the specific challenges and opportunities for faith based organizations to engage in the Beijing+25 review linking to the UN anniversary for the Symposium on the Role of Religion and Faith Based Organizations in International Affairs UN75 and Beijing+25.

In March of 2020, the global community will mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995). A five-year milestone will be reached towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 2020 is therefore a pivotal year for the accelerated realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, everywhere.

Celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week

The Parliament of the World's Religions continues to celebrate and observe the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week with organizers around the world. Beginning on the last week of January, organizers have been hosting events across the world in a wide range of topics. Explore some of the celebrations hosted in partnership with the Parliament.
World Interfaith Harmony Week Event Reflects on the Climate Emergency

On Monday, February 3, 2020 the Parliament of the World’s Religions partnered with the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, the United Nations Office of the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations and the World Yoga Community in observance of World Interfaith Harmony Week.

Interfaith Leaders Confront World Problems at United Nations Event

Pervasive violence. Devastating climate change. Religious and racial intolerance. Deadly epidemics.  These themes threatening our world today were taken on by a panel of faith leaders, experts and high-level officials at a commemoration of an event during World Interfaith Harmony Week celebrated annually in early February at the United Nations.  

Entitled “The State of the World Today from a Religious and Spiritual Perspective,” and held at a UN headquarters conference room, the event focused on faith leaders’ solutions to the real life issues affecting peoples worldwide.
