Join the Global Observance of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week 2021

The official observance of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week begins on Saturday, January 30th as organizers around the world come together to spread the message of harmony and tolerance among the followers of all the world’s religions, faiths and beliefs. Programs seek to do this by promoting their common basis of “Love of God and Love of the Neighbor, or Love of the Good and Love of the Neighbor”.

The Parliament of the World's Religions is a proud partner of grassroots organizers around the world. Explore some of the events happening from Saturday, January 30th through Sunday, February 28th in observance of this important initiative.

Parliament Chair Joins Cape Town Interfaith Initiative for Special “Keeping the Faiths” WIHW Convening
 

On Monday, February 1st join the Parliament of the World’s Religions and the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative for a special observance event of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week.

“Keeping the Faiths” invites World Interfaith Harmony Week first prize winners to describe the impact of winning the King Abdullah II prize, and how their interfaith work has changed in the context of the pandemic. Featuring past winners from Nigeria, the Philippines, Gambia, Canada, Australia, South Africa and Jordan, and a special participation from Parliament Chair, Nitin Ajmera.

NextGen Task Force to Host “Building Better Together” WIHW Observance
 

On Wednesday, February 17th join  the Next Generation Task Force at the Parliament of the World's Religions for a virtual program in observance of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week.

The program will be centered on the theme "building better together" reflecting on the lessons learned in 2020 and exploring the agenda for the future. Panelists will reflect on the following questions:

  • What challenges does 2021 bring with it?
  • Do you see this pandemic as an opportunity for building better together?
  • What steps do we all need to take to create the new normal for the betterment of our communities, our movement, and our future?
  • How do you see WIHW bringing people together to rebuild better?

Join Kehkashan Basu and Miriam Quezada from the Parliament's Next Generation Task Force for an intergenerational conversation featuring reflections from Kusumita Pedersen (PoWR) and Pragna Vasupal (Green Hope Foundation).

Join Parliament Trustee for Interfaith Conversation on "Antisemitism in America"

On Monday, February 1st join Parliament Trustee, Rev. Dr. John T. Pawlikowski, for an interfaith panel hosted by Catholic Theological Union entitled, "Antisemitism in America: An Interfaith Conversation". 

This panel features three world-renowned scholars who will discuss the rising and varied manifestations of antisemitism in America today against the backdrop of their areas of expertise in Jewish-Christian relations, American history, and political science. In putting their analyses into conversation with one another, this panel will offer not only expert insight, but also a way forward in defining what antisemitism is, how it is expressed in political and religious forms, and how it can be most effectively addressed.

Parliament to Host Buddhist-Catholic Dialogue Retreat on Climate Awareness

On Saturday, February 20th join the Parliament of the World’s Religions and The Bernardin Center at Catholic Theological Union for a special program on “Deepening our Awareness of Love, Compassion and Joy for the Healing of the World”. The program is hosted as part of the ongoing Buddhist-Catholic Dialogue on Climate Change launched by the Parliament’s Climate Action Program and the Bernardin Center in 2020.

Parliament Endorses Joint Interfaith Statement on the Entry into Force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

On January 22, 2021, the Parliament joined over 160 interfaith partners under the leadership of Soka Gakkai International Office of UN Affairs to endorse and release the “Joint Interfaith Statement on the Entry into Force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)”.

Jim Winkler

Today's release entitled, Race and Religion in the Post-Election, features Jim Winkler.

Jim Winkler serves as President and General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in the United States. As President and General Secretary, Winkler is the public voice of the NCC and represents the Council as it addresses its major priorities: mass incarceration and interreligious relationships with a focus on peace. In 2019, the Council officially added the priority of ending racism.
