‘Towards a Global Ethic’ is a welcome document, and the new directive for a ‘Commitment to a Culture of Sustainability and Care for the Earth’ is extremely timely. Indeed, what is needed in an age of ecological destruction is a moral vision that can inspire moral will, moral imagination, moral courage and moral leadership. Such a vision needs to be translated in appropriate values, middle axioms, virtues, duties and rights. A global ethic guides the whole of humanity in the right direction. |
