Denotes the number ratified out of the 18 international human rights treaties, tracked by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commission, addressing: racial discrimination; civil and political rights; abolition of the death penalty; economic, social and cultural rights; discrimination against women; torture and other inhumane punishment; rights of the child; involvement of children in armed conflict; sale, prostitution, and pornography of children; rights of all migrant workers and families; protection from enforced disappearance; and the rights of persons with disabilities. 

The Social Hostilities Index (SHI) is based on 13 questions used by the Pew Forum to gauge hostilities both between and within religious groups, including mob or sectarian violence, crimes motivated by religious bias, physical conflict over conversions, harassment over attire for religious reasons, and other religion-related intimidation and violence, including terrorism and war.

Countries with very high social hostilities have severe levels of violence and intimidation while countries with low social hostilities generally have moderate levels of violence and intimidation.

The Government Restrictions Index (GRI) is based on 20 questions used by the Pew Forum to assess whether governments – including at the local or provincial level – restrict religious practices or beliefs.

Countries with very high government restrictions have intensive restrictions on many or all of the 20 measures and countries with low government restrictions generally have moderate restrictions on few or none of the measures.

The NPT is a landmark international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament. The Treaty represents the only binding commitment in a multilateral treaty to the goal of disarmament by the nuclear-weapon States.

The (TPNW) includes a comprehensive set of prohibitions on participating in any nuclear weapon activities. These include undertakings not to develop, test, produce, acquire, possess, stockpile, use or threaten to use nuclear weapons. The Treaty also prohibits the deployment of nuclear weapons on national territory and the provision of assistance to any State in the conduct of prohibited activities.

Affirming that promoting that right requires the full implementation of the multilateral environmental agreements, the Right to a Healthy Environment Resolution calls upon States and civil society to adopt policies, enhance cooperation, and strengthen capacity-building to scale up efforts to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for all.
