2018 Parliament On-Site Information

From November 1st to November 7th, thousands of civic, spiritual and grassroots changemakers are coming together to reaffirm their commitment to the global interfaith movement and interfaith community. 

As you prepare to travel from your community and join the global interfaith community for this life-changing experience, the team at the Parliament of the World's Religions invite you to read over the on-site information. 

LOCATION

The 2018 Parliament of the World's Religions is being hosted at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), located at 255 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5V 2W6, Canada

WEATHER

Located in the Northern Hemisphere, the city of Toronto is experience the Autumn/Fall season. The week of the Parliament, it is expected that the city will be experiencing temperatures along the 30/40°F (6-8°C). 

Plan for cold weather and be sure to consider bringing warm clothing.

REGISTRATION

The registration desks are located in level 200 of the North Building of the MTCC and will be open during the following hours: 

  • Thursday, November 1 -- 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Friday, November 2 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Saturday, November 3 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Sunday, November 4 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Monday November 5 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, November 6 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, November 7 -- 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
PROGRAM ENQUIRIES AND CHANGES PRESENTER PREP ROOM | 802A

Program staff will be available to check-in presenters prior to scheduled session to confirm your arrival. Staff will support presenters in preparing for their AV needs and to facilitate any on-site adjustments to planned sessions between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. November 2 - 6.

Look out for the Program Changes board on Level 100, 200, 600 and 700 of the MTCC.

Please be aware that there will be no additional Program Books for sale on-site. Only the registrants who have already purchased a program book will be able to pick one up.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary wi-fi access courtesy of the Parliament of the World's Religions and Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

VOLUNTEER LOUNGE | South Building on the 800 level in room 802B. 

All volunteers are welcome to utilize the Lounge at any time between shifts for refreshments and relaxation, and to mingle with fellow volunteers.

PRESS ROOM | Level 200 

This limited access working area is designated for credentialed members of the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions press pool. For enquiries, please see media registration attendants. 

FOOD CHOICES | Level 800 

Beyond the Langar Sikh kitchen, a food court offering numerous snacks and meals will be open between 12:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. on level 800 near the Parliament exhibit hall. 

TRAVEL

Airport Transfers
Savings are available for Parliament guests traveling to Lester B. Pearson Airport on the UP Express rail using discount code PWR2018 on a return ticket. Purchase at upexpress.com before November 6, 2018 to take advantage of this 25 percent savings. Tickets are priced at $18.75 CAD with discount. 

A complimentary shuttle provided by provided by Porter Airlines transports riders to and from Billy Bishop Airport. Nearest Pick-Up to MTCC is outside of the Royal York Hotel. 

Courtesy Shuttle from MTCC to PoWR Block Hotels
Guest of the 2018 PoWR Block Hotels will be able to use shuttle transportation provided daily at set hours. Shuttle will pick up and drop off at the north and south entrances of the MTCC every 15 - 20 minutes or as Toronto city traffic allows. The shuttle route will visit all PoWR block hotels.

Toronto’s bike sharing program has a bike dock located at the intersection of Front St and Lower Simcoe, a ten-minute walk from the North Entrance.

Found on Level 300 in the North Building and Level 800 in the South Building the Business Centres provides the following services:
Photocopy / Printing Rates (available in colour or black and white):

  • Single-sided: $0.30 - $1.00
  • Double-sided: $0.35 - $1.50
  • Outbound courier service ($40 handling fee, plus applicable charge from the chosen courier)
  • Faxing, office supplies, tool and document scanning (please note charges apply)

Accessibility 
A limited number of wheelchairs are available as a courtesy service on a first come first serve basis. To request a wheelchair, visit a Guest Services agent located in the North Building on Level 200 and in the South Building on Level 500.
All levels of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre are accessible under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Parking - The North garage has 12 disabled parking spaces located on Level 4A and the South garage has 9 disabled parking spaces.

DO NOT CALL 911 as responding emergency staff (Police, Ambulance, and Fire Department) will not know the precise location required.
EMT services are provided by CNS Inc. The nurse with Corporate Nursing Services will be located in the following areas:
North Building – on 200 level, beside room 203C
South Building – on 800 level, opposite Hall D

Drake General Store at UP Express: Unique souvenir shop, 5 minute walk via the PATH which is accessible in the South Building 
CN Tower Gift Shop: Classic souvenir shop located in Toronto’s iconic CN Tower, 5 minute walk when departing from South Building
Jay’s Shop: Sports souvenir shop, 7 minute walk when departing from the South Building

House Phones

House phones are located throughout the North and South Building, in public/pre-function areas outside meeting rooms, as well as near entrances and elevators.

Lost and Found
Contact Licensor Security Services at (416) 585-8360. Items are catalogued and stored for 90 days

PARKING

Parking is severely limited, as we are expecting 6,000 guests and the MTCC lots only offer 1,700 spaces. Volunteers and guests are highly encouraged to use public transit, drop-off, carpool, other public parking, etc. In the event a guest must drive, the following information may be helpful:

 

PETS

Animals or pets, with the exception of working dogs, are not permitted within the facility except as an approved exhibit, activity or performance requiring the use of animals. An animal authorization request form must be completed prior to the event.
 

RECYCLING

Recycling on the Show Floor: Use the recycling bins as marked – large bins are made available during move-ins/outs for wood / metal, cardboard / plastic / paper, and organics. Keep food separate from other materials – if normally recyclable material is contaminated by food or drink, it will be sent to landfill.

Recycling in Meeting Rooms & Public Spaces 
Clearly marked recycling bins are conveniently located throughout the centre – available streams : plastic / metal / glass, organics, paper, and waste. If contamination occurs, the material will be sent to landfill.
