This workshop introduces the highly experiential and empowering Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP). It has proven results over the past 42 years in various settings, including schools, prisons, refugee camps, veterans, and street gangs. There are programs in 37 US states, 98 prisons, and 55 countries worldwide. AVP workshops offer interpersonal communication tools to prevent, resolve and heal conflict nonviolently, increasing self-awareness, empathy, and personal responsibility for behavior. While presented from a non-religious perspective, the core AVP concepts of transforming power, compassion and respect correlate well to universal spiritual values held by the world's religious and spiritual traditions.
