We Protect What We Love: Using Photography for Spiritual Reflection and Ecojustice

717A
Description:
Justice for humans, animals, and the planets requires love for each, however, we have difficulty loving what we don't know. "We protect what we love" expresses the importance of developing spiritual, aesthetic, and emotional connections with the world we want to save. In this presentation, Thomas Jay Oord shows his award-winning photography, while reflecting on the theological aesthetic that motivates his art and way of being in the world. As a Christian theologian, Oord brings a particular approach to the world. As an open and relational thinker, Oord's spiritual quest leads him to a particular perspective on God and the world that inclines him to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God and creation.
