Gender-Based Violence: A Human Rights Issue

Session Description:

The first of two sessions from the Religions for Peace International Youth Committee (IYC), this session focuses specifically on how gender-based violence (GBV) is exacerbated by religious patriarchy, political climates, and social conditions that affect women and the girl child, especially, worldwide. IYC members present and articulate the most dire needs of women and the girl child in eight regions around the world Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South East Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East. After this, they break the audience into 5 groups and facilitate discussions on better solutions to address GBV/human rights infractions exacerbated by theological dogma. This prepares the participants for the second session in this series, where the rest of the Religions for Peace International Youth Committee Members lead another session on creating strategic plans of action to better address and collaborate multi-religiously on GBV issues worldwide.
