Reconciliation Studies as a Tool to Defend Freedom and Human Rights
Session Description:
“Reconciliation is an internally complex concept because it refers to a cluster of practices that include (among other things) repenting, restoring, punishing, apologizing, repairing, forgiving, redeeming, forgetting, remembering, promising and understanding” (Schaap 2005). Reconciliation Studies need a multi-disciplinary approach and it showed it can work in conflict situations like South Africa and Rwanda; therefore Reconciliation Studies may be an effective tool to defend and/or restore freedom and human rights.
