Parliament Stands with Chabad of Poway Synagogue Victims and Community

April 29, 2019

The Parliament of the World’s Religions extends its deepest condolences to the victims of the anti-semitic shooting attack that occurred this past Sabbath in the Poway community. On Saturday, April 27th the Chabad of Poway Synagogue was attacked by a shooter who killed one person, injured three and irrevocably affected the community.
Just last week, we condemned the terror attacks that took place in Sri Lanka, and once again we are saddened by this violation of a sacred space and life. We condemn this and all acts of terrorism against all peoples.
We unequivocally condemn anti-semitism and stand with the Jewish community in Poway and around the world.
The Parliament of the World’s Religions is committed to a culture of non-violence and respect for life, as agreed upon on our signature document Towards A Global Ethic.
“All people have a right to life, safety, and the free development of  personality insofar as they do not injure the rights of others. No one has the right physically or psychically to torture, injure, much less kill, any other human being. And no people, no state, no race, no religion has the right to hate, to discriminate against, to ‘cleanse,’ to exile, much less to liquidate a ‘foreign’ minority which is different in behaviour or holds different beliefs.”
– Towards A Global Ethic: A Declaration of the Parliament of the World’s Religions

We invite individuals of faith and conscience to support the Poway community and challenge themselves and their communities to fight against anti-Semitism and support communities affected by tragedies like these.
