Architecture for Interreligious Peace: Sacred Spaces In Dialogue

Session Description:

This is an exciting time with burgeoning purpose-built multi-faith sacred spaces emerging across the world. What if architecture could literally “build” our world, and indeed, build the kind of world we want to live in. It is within the power of architectural design to encourage dialogue and understanding, make visible common values, address assumptions, and turn spaces into places of engagement, relationship, and new beginnings. This session inspires new ideas for coexistence as a panel of architects and practitioners present on the designs of multifaith projects from around the world, and how they were conceived as intentional spaces for interreligious understanding. Projects include: The Peace Cathedral, Synagogue, and Mosque located in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; The House of One in Berlin, Germany; The Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, UAE; and The Columbus, Indiana Interfaith Campus Initiative and/or Tri-Faith Initiative in Omaha, Nebraska.
