CANCELLED: Interfaith Action for Forests, Climate, & Indigenous Peoples Rights in Key Tropical Countries

Session Description:

The world’s religions are making forest protection and restoration a priority strategy in addressing climate change. Through the Interfaith Rainforest Initiative (IRI), senior religious leaders are rallying their communities to act, educating their communities to become advocates for forest protection and restoration, and calling on governments and the private sector to adopt policies that protect forests and the rights of indigenous peoples. This session features innovations from IRI country programs in Brazil, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, and Peru on their work in five countries that contain 70% of the world’s remaining rainforests. Each country representative also brings forward concrete policy proposals to put the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of the world’s forests at the center of the climate agenda—and multi-faith collaboration—and include a global call to action to end tropical deforestation.
