Calling for Nominations for the Official Awards To be Presented at the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions

The Parliament is seeking nominations for seven distinguished awards that will be presented at the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions this November 1 – 7 in Toronto, Ontario. 
On the 25th and 125th anniversary year of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, we are inaugurating five new honors to correlate to the mission of the organization, for a total of seven to be presented at the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions
1. The Carus Award – for outstanding work in advancing the interreligious movement around the world. 
2. Interfaith Engagement with the World Award – presented to two or more religious or spiritual organizations that have joined together and engaged at least one of the world’s guiding institutions to achieve significant change in the areas of justice, peace, and ecological sustainability. 
3. Global Ethic Award – in honor of our signature document, for “moral leadership that exemplifies one or more of the five directives of the Parliament’s Declaration Toward a Global Ethic or leadership in increasing awareness of the Declaration and promoting its practical application in the world.
4. Parliament of the World’s Religions Justice Award – to an individual or organization whose commitment to interfaith cooperation has demonstrably advanced justice in the world.
5. Parliament of the World’s Religions Peace Award – to an individual or organization whose commitment to interfaith cooperation has demonstrably reduced hate and violence and advanced peace in the world.
6. Parliament of the World’s Religions Ecological Flourishing Award – to an individual or organization whose commitment to interfaith cooperation has demonstrably advanced the Earth’s sustainability and flourishing.
7. The Parliament of the World’s Religions Ahimsa Award – for exceptional contributions that enhance and strengthen the interfaith community through non-violence, sponsored by Jain communities around the world.
Past awards of the Parliament of the World’s Religions have also included recognition for embodying the spirit of the Parliament’s Faith Against Hate programme, the Golden Rule, Cultivation of Harmony, and Outstanding Journalism.

Eligibility & Process 
Nominees will be judged and the winner(s) will be selected by members of a trustee committee of the board in consultation with members of Parliament of the World’s Religions task forces with mastery of the field, as appropriate.* 

Nominees will be eligible so long as they are not members of the Parliament of the World’s Religions Board of Trustees, or staff, or affiliated by membership on a Parliament of the World’s Religions Task Force.
Nominees known to have previously served the Parliament of the World’s Religions in any of these capacities will be eligible. 
Nominees of all ages will be eligible for each award.
*The Ahimsa Award – Winner will be determined by the Parliament of the World’s Religions in consultation with its Jain outreach partners. 
*The Carus Award – Winner will be determined in partnership with the Carus Family.
