May 11, 2020

On Thursday May 14th, 2020 the Parliament of the World’s Religions joining faith leaders and peoples of faith around the world in observing the #PrayForHumanity campaign organized by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF). HCHF comprises a diverse set of international religious leaders, educational scholars and cultural leaders who were inspired by the Document on Human Fraternity, and are dedicated to sharing its message of mutual understanding and peace. The committee was established in September 2019 as a concrete response to the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together signed by Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.
The #PrayForHumanity campaign calls on religious leaders and faithful around the world to a day of fasting, prayers and supplications for the good of all humanity on Thursday, May 14 for an end to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Pope Francis endorsed the campaign on Sunday, May 3rd during a virtual broadcast by making a call to “the believers of all the religions to unite together spiritually on May 14 in a day of prayer and fasting, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus pandemic.” Sheikh Ahmad el-Tayeb also endorsed the campaign by urging people to join the global observance “in order to eliminate this pandemic from the entire world” via his official Facebook.
