The Parliament of the World’s Religions carries on the legacy of the inaugural World Parliament of Religions, held in September 1893 in conjunction with the 1893 World Columbian Exposition set in Chicago (World’s Fair). The first Parliament of the World’s Religions is celebrated as the birth of modern interreligious dialogue for traditions of the East and West.
Through eight global convenings hosted by the Parliament of the World’s Religions since 1993, the Parliament has built a foundational reputation for interfaith activities around the world and is regarded as the largest, most diverse, and premier convening for people of religious, spiritual, and ethical conviction worldwide.
The 9th Parliament to be held in 2023 marks the third occasion that Chicago is the chosen host city of a Parliament convening.

The Parliament of the World’s Religions is the world’s largest, most diverse, and inclusive interfaith Convening of people of faith, spirituality, and goodwill. Its origins are rooted in the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where the historic first convening of the World Parliament of Religions created a global platform for engagement of religions of the east and west and was thereafter recognized as the birthplace of the modern interfaith movement.
The historic Convenings are organized by a 501(c)3 non-profit organization of the same name headquartered in the city of Chicago with a mission of justice, peace, and sustainability.
