A Window into Hindu and Jewish Traditional Storytelling and Devotional Song
Session Description:
This is an opportunity to experience traditional Jewish and Hindu storytelling and devotional song. Arun and Hanna share stories that explore social justice, truth, and women in society. Shruti performs both the traditional Vedic prayers as well as compositions of Hindu Marathi saints from the 17th century seeking universal blessing and peace for all living beings. Hanna shares niggunim (melodies) in the tradition of the Jewish Hasidic Spiritual Masters from the early 19th century. The concept of the niggun is that it has no words – thus evoking the possibility of undifferentiated potential in the depth of devotion and emotion. Let’s travel from Eastern Europe to India and onto Afghanistan. Let’s meet Indian saints and Jewish spiritual masters! Let’s bump into Holy Fools, and laugh, and wise Mystics greet us along our journey. Listen to devotional music to help us reach a profound place within our own hearts that help us to heal a fractured world.
