The treaty of Turin gave rise to the creation of the town of Carouge, sitting next to the strongly protestant city of Geneva. Less than 20 years later, under the forward thinking Pierre Claude de la Fléchère, then Comte de Veyrier, the city became active in welcoming Catholics, Jews, and Muslims. This led to a royal decree of tolerance in 1787 and changed the economic and social face of the region. In this session, we share documents, learn about important people, and discuss how the past can influence the future so that other small communities can become magnets for interfaith cooperation.
