Climate, Racism, and…Property?: The Call to Climate Justice for Religious Property Owners

“Land Justice” is the practice of centering ecological, social, and racial justice in decisions about how land is used and governed by people. As religious communities discern the future of their properties, the N&N Land Justice Project is building a community across religious communities to reimagine the property planning process. We support options that protect and regenerate the land, while expanding equity, tenure, and access to those who have been dispossessed of land—especially Black and Indigenous stewards, and other people of color. Join us and contemplate what the call to “land justice” might mean for this moment, especially for religious groups that are divesting of land. In this session, participants learn about the roots of land injustice, real estate, and the call to a new paradigm of religious property planning; and hear from three religious landowners who have heeded the call to land justice through land donation, rematriation, and building relationships of solidarity.
