Compassionate Fundraising for Ethically Motivated Faith Groups
Session Description:
Come join the Interfaith Vegan Coalition, the Episcopal Network for Animal Welfare, and CreatureKind for a conversation about creating compassionate fundraising events that value both humans and animals. The talk explores the history of kindness to animals throughout great religious teachings and the beliefs of religious leaders, and uses real-life examples like ending lobster boil fundraisers within the Episcopal church. After the initial discussion, break-out groups brainstorm with speakers to design new fundraising ideas to co-create a compassionate fundraising paradigm. This session addresses the oppression of animals and the ethical conundrum of raising money for faith groups and those in need at the expense of the animals who are eaten for this profit. The conversation seeks to raise awareness of the place of animals in religious spaces and create a space to brainstorm more compassionate and peaceful alternatives to using animal meat in fundraising events.
