Confronting Caste: A Multi-Faith Struggle for Human Rights
Session Description:
Despite originating in Hindu texts and traditions, caste has become deeply embedded in most religious traditions across South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. This session explores caste from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh perspectives—focusing both on the particularities of each tradition, as well as the similarities we see across communities. What will it take for us to see the annihilation of caste across religious communities? What steps can we take toward this goal in our respective communities?
