Embracing the Other in Unwelcoming Times: Examples of Interfaith Pioneers

Session Description:

Interfaith endeavor has never been an easy route to travel. In its essence, the idea of crossing the boundaries out of our comfort zones diametrically opposes the tribal dispositions embedded in human nature. This very challenge makes interfaith engagement a demanding task that requires strong leadership skills in addition to spiritual prominence. Yet, there are times, as evidenced by the deeply uncertain moment in history we are going through, that the task is even harder to address. This session aims to explore the stories of interfaith pioneers whose determination to recognize, welcome, and defend the dignity of the other has inspired millions. These pioneers demonstrate a shared characteristic of combining personal devotion and persevering leadership during unwelcoming times. Their exemplary work serves as invaluable sources at a time the world is failing to protect the lives and dignity of millions from persecution.
