Engaged Solidarity for Embodied Justice

Session Description:

Women’s bodies are targeted as the site of violence, in many, if not all religions. Women’s bodies are used as the site to control one’s freedom, mobility, justice, and voice. The idea of silencing women—their bodies as much as their voices—is a familiar pattern of patriarchy across religions. If there is one thing that is truly global, it is violence against women and their bodies. It is the same site of the body that is used to protest against all forms of violence. Body as a tool of resistance and resilience is common in all struggles and protests across the globe. How can we be in solidarity with those who risk their lives and their bodies for the sake of voice, life, dignity, and life breath itself. Women in Iran are presently showing their resilience power, body power, and allies/communities in solidarity have grown across borders and beliefs. How can we work together and be engaged in solidarity for embodied justice for all?
