Faith for Water
Session Description:
Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA) brings together faith leaders from India and the world to end deaths due to lack of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). GIWA sees a water-secure world where safe and sustainable drinking water and improved sanitation will be accessible for everyone. Nearly 800 million people have no access to clean and safe water. As our world heats up, water sources are diminishing and disease is increasing. GIWA harnesses the power of coming together to help inspire and mobilize people to embrace improved WASH. Recent success in ending much of India’s open defecation, allows energy and attention to issues of water, climate change, environmental protection, menstrual hygiene management, women, and youth empowerment, all through the power of faith. Our world is a faithful one, over 83% of all people subscribe to a religion. The power of the faith-based approach to creating change can’t be underestimated, as is discussed by this powerful panel of faith leaders.
