How to Live Our Interfaith Eco Ethics

Using biomimicry (lessons from nature) as a guide for spiritual intelligence, Dr. Alhadeff encourages a collective, interfaith practice of environmental justice and community action through S.O.U.L. (Shared, Opportunity, Used, Local). Instead of ignoring other peoples’ exploited labor as a resource, Alhadeff’s session offers how we can establish infrastructures that support our local communities/ place-based geographies (including bioregional watershed, fiber shed, and foodshed systems)—where economics and ecologies co-evolve rather than be in competition or opposition. Both the words “economic” and “ecology” derive from the Greek oikos, meaning home. Collaborating across religious, cultural, economic, and ethnic differences, we can offer how the concept of home (oikos—economy/ecology) can become a model for interdependency that increases cultural diversity and biodiversity, a model for ethical everyday living rooted in collective creative problem-solving and spiritual intelligence.
