Human Rights/Derechos Humanos: Prints by Artists from Oaxaca and Ohio

Session Description:

The exhibit consists of 25 woodcut prints by 25 artists. One artist from Oaxaca and one artist from Cincinnati each addressed in their prints one of 12 Human Rights (such as Right to Education, Right to Freedom, Right to Health, Right to a Home, Right to Work, Right to Non-Discrimination) and one artist from Cincinnati did a print for the cover page. The portfolio was a project and a creation of SOS ART (sosartcincinnati.com), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and provide opportunities and venues for all the arts for peace and justice and for a better world. It was done in collaboration with Taller Burro Press in Oaxaca where all the prints were printed. The purpose of the portfolio was to challenge artists from both cities/countries to create images and messages around human rights through a collaborative process across different cultures, and to raise awareness and provide opportunities for dialogue with the viewer about the addressed issues.
