Imagining Freedom: Creative Explorations in Hindu Liberation Theology
Session Description:
What does it mean to be free? Hindu thinkers have spent centuries reflecting on this question and its implications for spiritual as well as social liberation. Today, in a context of increasing authoritarianism and grave challenges to peace and democracy, many Hindus are revisiting this question in an interfaith spirit with new urgency. This session introduces recent efforts by young Hindu leaders to creatively engage Liberationist thought and address pressing issues of social justice. Embracing the notion that liberation, mukti, entails the social as well as the spiritual, they seek to redefine Hindu concerns around freedom for the twenty-first century. Presenters share their experiences in fostering radical new spaces for worship, reflection, and dialogue grounded in a Hindu theology from the margins.
