Is Climate Change a Failure or Savior of Religions?

Session Description:

Gus Speth, one of the foremost environmentalists on the planet, made the case that the three major environmental problems identified by the United Nations, biodiversity loss or species extinctions, ecosystem collapse or desertification, and climate change, are caused by the widespread and systemic promotion of selfishness, greed, and apathy. Since these character flaws are antithetical to every major or minor religion on the planet, we can make the case that climate change is the result of a failure of religions. Likewise, solving climate change calls for a spiritual and cultural transformation that can energize religions and save their dwindling popularity, especially among youth. Therefore, climate change can be viewed as a Savior of religions. Our panel of experts explores these questions in detail.
