Maps Teach Me Things: Lessons in Climate and Compassion
Session Description:
This interactive artwork invites participants to engage with Christina Conklin’s hand painted maps of climate change impacts around the world, drawn from her book, The Atlas of Disappearing Places: Our Coasts and Oceans in the Climate Crisis. These ink-on-dried seaweed images translate climate science into understandable images of ecological crisis. Viewers can share written reflections on what they learn from the maps and where they see opportunities for compassionate action. A Q&A session with the artist will prompt additional conversation about our individual and collective responsibility for our planet’s health, asking people to “connect the dots” between our own choices and the Earth’s future.
