Moving Towards a Good Karma Diet
Session Description:
In this session, participants consider and construct a way of eating that reflects their highest convictions. The session includes an introduction to the good karma diet concept, why food choices matter to both good planetary citizenship and spiritual growth. Followed by small group breakouts to discuss: What, if anything, did you learn about food choices from your religious tradition? If you’ve changed your diet, do you feel that these changes were spiritually motivated? In larger groups, participants consider ethical questions around diet: animal welfare, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, climate change, degenerative disease, depletion of aquatic populations, species extinction, water pollution and shortages, workers’ rights, world hunger, and zoonotic disease. The session concludes with small groups creating a day’s menu plan to responsibly address these issues.
