Quaker Meeting for Worship out of the Silence for Clearness on Decolonizing the Golden Rule
Session Description:
This is a worship out of the Silence in the tradition of Quakers. It is framed by the shared intent to discern ways the version of the Golden Rule included in the Parliament’s Global Ethic (What you wish done to yourself, do to others!) might express ethnocentric and/or colonialist emphases on using our own values to decide how to treat others. Drawing on whatever spiritual traditions of meditation and prayer they may have, participants are invited to respond to this Query: How might way open to best deepen, share, and promulgate the core moral insights people have sought to express with versions of the Golden Rule, the Rainbow Rule (“Do unto others as they would have you do unto them”) and injunctions to practice compassion toward all—even to the point of loving our enemies?
