Reclaiming Dignity in Silenced Perinatal Grief: An Interfaith Approach
Session Description:
Perinatal loss is a hidden grief in our modern world, and its impact on the psyche and soul of women is often minimized or dismissed. Yet, without adequate support, the effects of perinatal loss on the health and well-being of women and their loved ones are often debilitating, resulting in various adverse outcomes and maladaptive thoughts and behaviors, thus negatively affecting the overall health and well-being of those grieving a perinatal loss. In this session, the presenters explore the landscape of grief and loss for women and their loved ones facing perinatal loss from abortion, miscarriage, or other causes of perinatal loss. The presenters provide critical insights into the unique dynamics of grief and loss and offer a toolkit for supporting women through the process of fetal demise. A grief ritual for memorializing perinatal loss is also offered.
