CANCELLED: Section 298
Session Description:
A new short documentary “Section 298” unveils the realities of life under Pakistan’s deadliest law. Section 298 of the Pakistan Penal Code (part of the country’s blasphemy laws) targets Ahmadi Muslims and legalizes prosecution and imprisonment for those who identify as Ahmadi Muslims—a religious community that has been internationally acknowledged as the most persecuted community in Pakistan. Persecuted from birth, Ahmadi Muslims are targeted at home, in schools and colleges, at work, in their mosques, and even their graves are not spared. They are also denied the right to vote. “Section 298” takes us into the heart of the Pakistani Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as they struggle to keep their families, community, and traditions alive. The screening is followed by an expert discussion which includes the persecution of minorities.
