She’s Trans, She’s Disabled, Yet We Both Stand for Freedom and Human Rights: A Concert
Session Description:
Revs Yolanda and Ellie present a musical performance on confronting the challenges of being a marginalized society member, yet empowered in spiritual growth and community extension. Supporting freedom and human rights involves recognition, advocacy, and the execution of an understanding of all kinds of human experiences. Ellie and Yolanda‘s unique journeys have been about helping society to understand that disabled and LGBTQ persons are equal in the sight of the law and God. Ellie works with the “International Peace Orchestra” to create benefit concerts in her community for many underprivileged organizations, as she advocates for her own marginalized experience, wheelchair-bound with an autoimmune disease. Reverend Yolanda being a trans minister, takes their mission directly into educational institutions to advocate for equal rights. Yolanda and Ellie found kinship in that they, along with their husbands, write, produce, and perform songs from the book, “A Course in Miracles.”
