Teaching Youth Nonviolent Leadership and Peace Building
Session Description:
This session shares the mission of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation to create safer schools and communities through educating and inspiring children in the restorative principles of accountability, compassion, forgiveness, and peacemaking. Compassionate confrontation requires compassionate listening and we understand that compassionate confrontation is a healthy ingredient to human interactions. Forgiveness is defined as “the act of giving up of resentment” and we see forgiveness as a process, starting with the acknowledgment that we have been harmed. Through this pain, we tap into the power of forgiveness. In this session participants experience the six principles of nonviolence: violence Is real and it hurts everyone; actions have consequences; we can all make good and nonviolent choices even when we are violated; we can choose forgiveness over revenge; everyone including you deserves to be respected and treated well; and from conflict you can create love and unity.
