The Dignity of Labor: Understanding the Right to Work Across Traditions

Session Description:

The Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity at the Archdiocese of Chicago is hosting a discussion on the topic of the dignity of labor. It invites faith leaders from across traditions to speak on how their faith tradition views the meaning and value of human work. Presenters are encouraged to draw from ritual and literature specific to their tradition that informs their ideologies on topics such as a just wage, ethical working conditions, the right to work, etc. Presenters are invited to share how their faith communities enact these tenets surrounding labor rights in their efforts across the Chicagoland area. The desired outcome of this session discussion is twofold. First, to demonstrate solidarity between faith leaders on the issue of labor rights across the US and the globe. Second, to reveal differences in practice and principle in a way that strengthens advocacy as a faith community on this issue.
