The Global Ethic and the Death Penalty

The Parliament’s Global Ethic document is clear: it commits us to respect life and dignity, to treat every person humanely. It declares that no one stands above good and evil, including the state, and that all people have a right to life. The Global Ethic states plainly that no one has the right to physically or psychically torture or kill another person. The death penalty stands against all those principles, yet it is practiced around the world, including in the US where this conference is taking place. This topic is timely, when countries such as Iran are hanging human rights protesters and US states like Oklahoma are ramping up executions.
