The Role Communities of Faith Play in Creating Just & Sustainable Communities

Session Description:

Throughout history, we see the effects of religion on peoples of faith and the role they play in the development of society and civilization. One example is the 1st-century Christian Church whose followers joined together in community, established new religious virtues-based community norms of conduct, and laid the foundations of what was to become today’s Western Civilization. These new cultural foundations show the creative bridge between old and new societies. This session explores the successes that peoples of faith play in the recreating of their communities to an inclusive, just, and sustainable model of civic order. It describes how Northwest Ohio, by taking advantage of the member shared values and unique capacities contained in diverse communities of faith, can join to recreate their communities to a just and sustainable standard. Rather than concentrate on international or national efforts, this session explores what people of faith can do in their local community.
