Transcontinental Multi-faith School-based Children’s Religious Education
Session Description:
This session reports on one person’s experience in teaching multi-faith religious education to school children using Zoom. Based on her success in offering Muslim religious education classes via Zoom during the pandemic, Dr. Ebenhack was inspired to use Zoom to teach religious education to students at Circle of Peace School in Makindye, Uganda. This local family-run school aimed at educating impoverished children, has both Christian and Muslim students. Using videos, digital books, songs, and worksheets, Dr. Ebenhack alternates between a Christian lesson and a Muslim lesson weekly. Nursery classes were the first to be offered, with the intent of adding classes up to grade 7. This session presents the challenges and rewards of virtual religious education across cultures, continents, and faiths.
