The Parliament of the World’s Religions is honored to welcome Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen, and Harvinder Singh Phoolka as featured luminaries of the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions, gathering in Chicago, USA from August 14-18, 2023.

Luminaries Answering the Call to Conscience

The featured luminaries at the 2023 Parliament Convening are a diverse cohort of faith, spiritual, civic, and governmental leaders answering the call to conscience to defend freedom and human rights. This cohort of luminaries leads exemplary lives dedicated to upholding human rights, advancing women’s dignity, and fostering peace around the world.

Harvinder Singh Phoolka

Harvinder Singh Phoolka is a Senior Advocate of Delhi High Court, politician, human rights activist, and author. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

He is known for spearheading what is described as “one of the longest and most torturous legal battle” and “crusades” to gain justice for the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms and fighting individual cases on the involvement of Congress-I leaders H. K. L. Bhagat, Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler despite the government cover-up. He received threatening letters for unearthing involvements of ruling political party leaders in what the Asian Age called “the Mother of all Cover-ups” in a front-page story. The special anniversary edition of the Outlook included Phoolka in its list of 50 people that make a difference in India, alongside Amartya Sen and Abhinav Ghosh.

Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen M.D.

Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D. is a psychiatrist, Jungian analyst, an internationally known speaker and author of thirteen influential books in over one hundred foreign editions: The Tao of Psychology, Goddesses in Everywoman, Gods in Everyman, Ring of Power, Crossing to Avalon, Close to the Bone, Goddesses in Older Women, Crones Don’t Whine, The Millionth Circle, Like A Tree, Urgent Message From Mother, Moving Toward the Millionth Circle, and Artemis: The Indomitable Spirit in Everywoman. She is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a past Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of California San Francisco, and a former board member of the Ms. Foundation for Women, the Association for Transpersonal Psychology, and the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. She is a 2020-21 Lifetime Achievement Award honoree from Marquis Who’s Who.

Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith

Michael Bernard Beckwith is the Founder and CEO of Agape International Spiritual Center, a trans-denominational community in Los Angeles comprised of thousands of local members and global live streamers. Highly regarded for its cultural, racial, and spiritual diversity and inclusivity, the late Coretta Scott King wrote to Dr. Beckwith, “I greatly admire what you are doing to bring about the Beloved Community, which is certainly what my dear husband worked for and ultimately gave his life.” Widely recognized for his teachings on the science of inner transformation and unity, Dr. Beckwith embraces a practical approach to spirituality utilizing meditation, affirmative prayer, and Life VisioningTM, a spiritual technology he developed for conscious evolution, authentic living, and living your life purpose. These practices teach us to take the experience of inner peace and awakened awareness into our everyday lives.

Dr. Beckwith is a sought-after meditation teacher, conference speaker, and seminar leader on the Life Visioning ProcessTM. He’s addressed audiences at the  UN General Assembly during its annual World Interfaith Harmony Week, TEDx  Maui, and Oprah Winfrey Network’s (OWN) SuperSoul Sessions, among numerous others. As co-founder and president of the Association for Global New  Thought, he hosts conferences featuring harbingers of world peace.
