In Memoriam: Rabbi Dr. Peter Knobel

The Parliament of the World’s Religions is saddened to learn of the passing of Parliament Trustee Emeritus, Rabbi Dr. Peter Knobel and extends his wife Elaine, his children and grandchildren, family, friends, colleagues, and congregants heartfelt condolences for this immense loss.
Rabbi Peter S. Knobel was rabbi emeritus at Beth Emet The Free Synagogue in Evanston, Illinois where he had served since 1980. He served on the board of many local and national institutions including Association of Reform Zionists of America, Union for Reform Judaism, American Jewish Committee, Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago, and the Parliament of the World’s Religions.
Rabbi Knobel was a Past President of the Chicago Board of Rabbis, the Chicago Association of Reform Rabbis as well as the Central Conference of American Rabbis [CCAR].
He died in Los Angeles, California on August 20th at the age of 76. His service was held on Monday, August 26th at Beth Emet and live streams of the service can be watched on their Facebook page. Memorial contributions may be made to Beth Emet The Free Synagogue.
