Public Statement by the Board of Trustees of the Parliament of the World’s Religions

January 27, 2025

The Board of Trustees of The Parliament of World’s Religions is in solidarity with Episcopal Bishop The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, who courageously spoke convictions of millions in her homily delivered at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Rt. Rev. Budde delivered a morally unambiguous message on unity for the people and nation, unity that fosters community across diversity and division, unity that serves the common good. She highlighted the urgent needs of several communities for mercy and compassion in all levels of public life today.

“Unity is not partisan. Rather, unity is a way of being with one another that encompasses and respects our differences, that teaches us to hold multiple perspectives and life experiences as valid and worthy of respect, that enables us in our communities and in the halls of power to genuinely care for one another, even when we disagree.”

The Parliament of World’s Religions signature document, “Towards a Global Ethic” affirms Bishop Budde’s message. We are committed to a culture of tolerance and a life of truthfulness where every human being is treated with dignity and respect. What you wish done to yourself, do to others. Across religions, this moral truth is an irrevocable, unconditional norm for all areas of life, for individuals, families and communities, for races, nations, traditions, and religions.
