The Parliament of the World’s Religions is marking the celebration of Women’s History Month in commemoration of International Women’s Day on March 8th and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW64). This year, the Parliament celebrates the enduring role of women and the importance of uplifting their dignity across faith and spiritual traditions by hosting the Women’s History Webinar Series.

On March 18th,  join Parliament Chair, Audrey Kitagawa, and Parliament Women’s Task Force Chair, Elizabeth Ursic, for a special webinar on Dignity of Women Across the World’s Wisdom. The webinar will feature the participation of Carol P. Christ, Karma Lekshe Tsomo, Sakena Yacoobi, Saphira Rameshfar & Rev. Dionne P. Boissière, MDiv. in a lively discussion on the dignity of women across religious and faith traditions and the historic Women’s Dignity Poster, developed for the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Toronto.

1000 Women in Religion Edit-a-thon in support of Women’s History Month
On March 25th,  join the Parliament of the World’s Religions and the AAR/SBL Women’s Caucus for a 1000 Women in Religion Women’s History Month edit-a-thon. The webinar will feature a special introduction from Parliament Women’s Task Force Chair, Elizabeth Ursic, and Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight, an American Wikipedia editor who is noted for her attempts to address gender disparity in the encyclopedia by running a project to increase the quantity and quality of women’s biographies. The introductions will be followed by a guided training by Colleen Hartung, Chair of the 1,000 Women in Religion project.
Did you know that only 18% of the biographical subjects and 9% of the editors on Wikipedia are women? WikiProject 1000 Women in Religion is a major initiative of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature (AAR/SBL) Women’s Caucus. The project aims to address the under-recognized work of cis and transgender women in the world’s religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions by adding 1,000+ women in religion onto Wikipedia.
At this edit-a-thon/workshop, hosted by the Parliament of World Religions, participants will sign up as wiki-editors, create their personal user page, learn the basics of editing and make their first wiki-edits. We can also help you to start a new article about a woman who is not on Wikipedia but should be included.
The worklist will focus on: keynote speakers and other presenters from the 2015 and 2018 Parliament of World Religions. Participants are also welcome to work on women from any religious, spiritual or wisdom tradition who are not on the worklist. There will be plenty of time for questions and time for hands-on assistance. No need to be a technological expert!
Join us in our effort to address gender bias on Wikipedia by improving the coverage of women in religion on Wikipedia.
