Religions for Peace Convenes 10th World Assembly

Tuesday, August 20th marked the first day of the 10th World Assembly of Religions for Peace (RFP),  in partnership with the Foundation Peace Dialogue of the World Religions and Civil Society. Religions for Peace is the world’s largest and most representative multi-religious coalition with “Inter-religious Councils” (IRCs) in nearly 100 countries, currently headquartered in New York.
The RPF’s 10th World Assembly is taking place in Lindau, Bavaria, Germany from August 20th-24th on the theme of  “Caring for our Common Future ̶ Advancing Shared Well-being.” Some 800 senior religious leaders, youth and women of faith from over 100 countries are joined by 100 representatives of governments, intergovernmental organizations and civil society groups to forge multi-stakeholder partnerships for the common good.
Parliament Chair, Audrey Kitagawa, joins RFP in this historic gathering as an ongoing effort to foster greater collaboration between interfaith networks. ​​Kitagawa is pictured with Tarunjit Butalia (Right), Executive Director of Religions for Peace USA, and Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi (Left), Director of External Religions for the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers. Both Butalia and Dr. Elsaousi are members of the Board of Trustees of the Parliament of the World’s Religions.

In a historic assembly for RFP, Dr. Azza Karam, Senior Cultural Advisor of UNFPA and Chair if the UN Interagency Task Force, was elected as their first female Secretary General.
The Parliament joins friends from different faith traditions and interfaith organizations in congratulating Dr. Karam’s historic selection.
