The Role of Critical Constituencies in Accelerating Peace

Engaging critical constituencies within the global interfaith movement is critical to fostering a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. At the upcoming United Religions Initiative conference Accelerating Peace: Interfaith Action and Global Peacebuilding, the voices of women and indigenous peoples will play a vital role in action based dialogue.
On Thursday, June 27th, 2018 Parliament keynote Hereditary Chief Phil Lane Jr. will be participating in the Waters of the World Ceremony hosted from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. Chief Lane Jr. is joined by Don Frew, National Interfaith Representative of the Covenant of the Goddess, and URI Trustee; Sofia Painiqueo, Mapuche Indigenous Leader, Founder of the Aflailai Foundation, a URI Cooperation Circle, and URI Trustee; Vilma Rosaura Palax Tuy, Founder and Vice-President of Descendientes de Guatemala, a URI Cooperation Circle; and Audri Scott Williams, Trail of Dreams Peacewalkers, a URI Cooperation Circle, and URI Trustee.

Parliament keynote Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati also joins Accelerate Peace on Thursday for the program Building Cultures of Peace, Justice and Healing for the Earth and all Living Beings: Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability taking place from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The program will highlight the role of women on critical global issues and also features a video case presentation titled Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability presented by Amira Diamond and Melinda Kramer, Co-Founders and Co-Directors of the Women’s Earth Alliance and the Ripple Academy Dialogue on Women’s Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability.
The program will conclude with a small group discussion on questions followed by questions for speakers. The panel is moderated by Kiran Bali, MBE JP, Chair of the URI Global Council. Kiran Bali was a featured keynote at the 2015 and 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions.
