Why Ramadan is Meaningful to this Atheist

Written by Adam Garner

In 2015, hate incidents against Muslims rose a shocking 67% over the previous year, the highest they’ve been in over a decade.
As Americans and as neighbors, it’s our responsibility to step up and show Muslims in our communities and around the country that we appreciate and support them.
Ramadan, an important holiday in Islam, is a celebration of charity, compassion, and mercy, three ideas we all value. Let’s show support and appreciate by rallying around the things we all believe in.
Make a Happy Ramadan card for our Muslim neighbors to wish them a blessed and restful Ramadan! Together, I’m teaming up with DoSomething to send handmaid Ramadan cards to every single mosque in the US.

Adam Garner’s reflection comes to the Parliament of the World’s Religions as part of the 2017 Interfaith Ramadan series, empowering interfaith allies, Muslim and those of other spiritual and religious backgrounds from around the world, to share their stories of service, community and gratitude during the month of Ramadan. Please contact the Parliament at info@ParliamentOfReligions.org, or tag us at #RamadanPoWR to share your own story.
