Challenging Christian and Hindu Nationalism: Shared Struggles and Opportunities

Session Description:

The United States and India are, respectively, the world’s oldest and largest democracies – societies with an incredible amount of religious diversity, and thus far countries with secular constitutions. However, in both countries, rising religious nationalism poses a serious threat: white Christian nationalism in the United States, and Hindu nationalism in India. In this session, Christian and Hindu faith leaders and activists explore the similarities between these right-wing political ideologies, which have been rapidly growing in power in recent years. In particular, presenters focus on highlighting the resources that exist within Christian and Hindu religious traditions to combat religious nationalism and fundamentalism.
