Land-ment: Embracing and Channeling Our Climate Grief for Climate Hope
Session Description:
This ceremony for the Earth combines the transformative power of ritual with activism on behalf of our beleaguered planet. In so doing, this rite: provides an outlet for mourning ecological damage, raises awareness of and action toward climate disruption, and inspires hope within a shared spiritual experience, connecting with others and the land. Drawing inspiration from several traditions under the umbrella of Contemporary Paganisms (e.g., Wicca, Druidry, Reclamation, and Heathenry), as well as from practitioners of non-Pagan traditions, this effort is both pan-Pagan and interfaith. Participants interact through creating a tree, in which the leaves are their pledges, and also visualizing our connected fates as knotted threads. This ritual features live music, particularly for the “Land-ment” (or lament for our damaged land), which includes an original composition.
