Restoring Traditional Landscapes in the Nilgiris!

This session is designed to highlight the key methodologies used to solve the various ecological issues, in order to slowly make a difference not only on the ground but also in the social consciousness within the county/district and beyond. By rewilding and restoration of the tea plantation in the EBR valley, the hydrology of this area has improved dramatically. This valley is a watershed, which supplies water to over 20 villages. Grassland birds like the endemic and endangered Nilgiri Pipit are returning to this new restored landscape. Wildlife is able to move without a hindrance and more grazing area is available to them. The various short-term and long-term goals are ongoing, but some of the impacts are already tangible. Finally, the discussion includes workable proactive solutions which must be done to reverse the ecological damage using the EBR model.
